The Sonoma County Board of Education seat for Trustee Area 2, the southwest part of the county, is on the Nov. 3 ballot with two newcomers running, the Press Democrat reports. The county board adopts the County Office of Education's budget and hears charter school, interdistrict transfer and expulsion appeals.
The candidates
- Jonathan Lenz (Educator). In his county voter guide statement, Lenz says he has worked in a county office of education for 23 years and is now a deputy superintendent in a neighboring county. He previously served as a trustee for a school district within Area 2 and stresses "respecting local control."
- Caitlin Quinn (Nonprofit Union President on the ballot; her statement lists Nonprofit Government Relations Associate). Quinn's statement says she has served on the Petaluma City Schools board for nearly eight years. It says she has worked to amplify student voice, strengthen partnerships with labor unions and expand music, ethnic studies and career technical pathways, and has pushed for more funding for south county districts that she says are shortchanged by the state's funding formula.
