The Petaluma Joint Union High School District, governed by the Petaluma City Schools board, spans Sonoma and Marin counties. Ballotpedia says it served 4,961 students in 11 schools in the 2025 school year. Both of its contested seats on Nov. 3 feature only newcomers, the Press Democrat reports.

Trustee Area 3 candidates

  • Laura Holmes (Parent/HR Consultant). Holmes's county voter guide statement cites 20 years in human resources and technology and two children in Petaluma City Schools. The district faces "difficult budgeting impacts, supporting an incoming superintendent, and welcoming multiple new board members," the statement says.
  • John Garcia (Physician/Medical Director). Garcia's statement describes a family physician and medical director with three children in Petaluma schools who promises transparency, fiscal stewardship and long-term planning.
