With hours left before polls close in the race for California's 11th Congressional District, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi showed up Tuesday morning at Supervisor Connie Chan's volunteer hub at 55 Fillmore St., according to Mission Local, which logged the visit at 11:30 a.m. Chan's canvassers had been stationed there since 6 a.m.

Mission Local reported that Pelosi addressed a crowd of about 100 people at IBEW Local 6's building, which Chan's coalition has used for most of its get-out-the-vote work. “We are believers in mobilization,” Pelosi said. Both Mission Local and The San Francisco Standard quoted her saying, “I'm so proud of her candidacy. It makes me emotional.” The Standard reported Pelosi also said her husband, who she said “is not very political,” offered to phone bank for Chan on Tuesday.

Chan took aim at Wiener without naming him. “They may have all this money that is bankrolled by the AI companies, and the billionaires and the corporations, but we have the labor movement,” she said, according to The Standard. Mission Local quoted her: “They have the money, we have the manning.”

An early start in the rain

The Standard reported that Chan arrived at 7:15 a.m. at Geary and Park Presidio boulevards in the Richmond to wave at commuters. Wiener was also out campaigning early and put on a poncho when the first downpour hit. Mission Local saw Wiener supporters in ponchos and Chan supporters with signs at Castro Station around 8:35 a.m.

Voters Mission Local spoke to at polling places in the Mission, Outer Richmond and Sunset were split, with some backing Chan and one Sunset voter saying he chose Wiener for his experience.
