District 8
Mission Local found District 8 candidate Gary McCoy under a brown umbrella at Castro Station around 8:35 a.m. McCoy became the front-runner after Manny Yekutiel, who was accused of sexual assault, stopped campaigning. McCoy, a former Pelosi staffer, told Mission Local this is his first time as a candidate and that it is “a little intense.” He said he finally slept well Monday night after a week of anxiety.
The San Francisco Standard reported that another District 8 candidate, Michael Nguyen, ducked into Verve Coffee Roasters on Market Street when the rain started during his final canvassing Tuesday morning. “It's been a crazy campaign, definitely one for the lore,” Nguyen said, referring to Yekutiel's exit. “I stayed true to my values and am proud of the campaign we run.”
Yekutiel's name is still on the ballot. Mission Local noted that he suspended his campaign on Oct. 1, the day ballots went out, and that how many voters still rank him could shape the outcome under ranked-choice voting.
District 10
In Potrero Hill, Mission Local reported around noon that long-shot candidate J.R. Eppler and five others were remaking campaign signs soaked in the 8 a.m. downpour. Eppler said he remains “hopeful” and planned to hold an election watch party at Connecticut Yankee on Tuesday night. Mission Local also found a volunteer for Theo Ellington, whom it called the District 10 front-runner, holding a sign near a Potrero Hill polling place.
The Standard reported that Ellington, Mayor Daniel Lurie's preferred candidate, faces a crowded field led by Dion-Jay Brookter and Eppler. Tech billionaire Chris Larsen put $540,000 into a PAC supporting Ellington, including a $500,000 contribution that The Standard said set a record for an individual donation in a San Francisco supervisor race.
