The Marin City Community Services District is the local government for the unincorporated community just north of Sausalito. Its board will see real turnover on Nov. 3: eight candidates are running for three full-term seats, and two are competing for a short-term seat, according to Marin County Elections.

  • Kevin Douglas (incumbent)
  • Angela Haynes (incumbent)
  • Beatra Hall, Marin City library assistant
  • Eboni McKinley
  • Royce McLemore
  • Derek Morgan
  • Capri M. Price, behavior technician
  • La Tanya J. Wiggins, childcare provider and parent

Short-term seat

Appointed incumbent Sarah Elizabeth Canson faces Terrie Harris Green, whose ballot designation is CSD director.

Why it matters

Local News Matters called Marin City one of the longest-lasting and most historically important African American neighborhoods in the Bay Area, with roots more than 80 years old in the Marinship wartime shipyard. Candidates debated in September at the First Missionary Baptist Church in a forum moderated by its pastor, Rondall Leggett. Issues raised in coverage of the race include affordable housing, the future of the Golden Gate Village public housing complex, and gentrification.

Other local races

Marin City voters will also elect trustees for the Sausalito Marin City School District, where four candidates are running for three seats, and directors for the Sausalito-Marin City Sanitary District.

How to vote

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polls and vote centers close at 8 p.m., and mailed ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and arrive within seven days. You can check your registration and ballot status at sos.ca.gov/elections. California lets you register and vote the same day at a vote center.
