Area 3 of the Marin County Board of Education includes Lucas Valley, Marinwood and part of San Rafael, the Marin IJ reports. The board oversees the Marin County Office of Education, whose annual budget is about $67 million.

The candidates

  • Cynthia Johanson Irish (Appointed Incumbent), of San Rafael, was appointed in February 2025. The IJ describes her as a 30-year educator, media publisher and nonprofit leader and executive director of the George Lucas Educational Foundation. She told the IJ every student "deserves an excellent education that combines academic rigor with well-being, joy and meaningful preparation for life after graduation."
  • Craig Stuart Adams (Realtor / Author), of Marinwood, is a real estate broker and a member of the Marin Republican Party, according to the IJ. He cited experience in negotiation, collaboration and business operations. "At the end of the day, it's about relationships and doing what's best for education and children," he said.
