Glide's Holiday Jam returns to the Warfield in San Francisco on Thursday, Nov. 5, with Patti LaBelle as headliner. Glide's website says tickets are on sale for this year's theme, "Turn It Up and Turn It Out."

The lineup

7x7 reports the bill also includes vocalist Destani Wolf, the traditional Veracruz music group Son de Fandango, and the Glide Ensemble and The Change Band led by Zoe Ellis. LaBelle, known as the "Godmother of Soul," has sold more than 50 million records over six decades.

Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi will receive the second Lizzie Glide Spirit Award, named for the woman who founded Glide Church in 1929. Folk singer and activist Joan Baez received the first award last year.

Why it matters

For more than 40 years, the Holiday Jam has raised money for Glide's work in the Tenderloin. Glide says that work includes help with poverty, housing and homelessness, health services and a transitional-age youth center. This fall its Center for Social Justice is also running a "Fall Into Justice" event series at 330 Ellis St.

If you go

The show starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Warfield, 982 Market St. Tickets are sold through glide.org. Glide is also part of the city's Veterans Day events next month.
