South San Francisco Unified School District, which Ballotpedia says served 7,664 students in 17 schools, has two contested trustee races on the Nov. 3 ballot. San Mateo County's certified roster lists Amanda Anthony unopposed in Area D.
Trustee Area C: Chialin Hsieh vs. Avin Sharma
- Chialin Hsieh (Incumbent) lists on Ballotpedia more than 20 years in education, including work as a community college vice president of instruction, and describes being an immigrant. Hsieh was appointed to the board in 2021 and elected in 2022, and lists endorsements from board colleagues and South San Francisco council members.
- Avin Sharma (Parent/Finance Administrator) lists on Ballotpedia two daughters in district schools and more than 20 years in finance, including leadership roles at UCSF. Sharma is vice-chair of the district's Measure T Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee and chairs the South San Francisco Housing Authority Board.
Bay Ballot's tracker shows three voter guides recommending Hsieh. The San Mateo Daily Journal, as quoted there, wrote that "the achievement gap is a real concern, and Hsieh was there to create the district's 2024-29 strategic plan and revamp the math curriculum."
Trustee Area E: Mina A. Richardson vs. Frank Lara
- Mina A. Richardson (SSFUSD Trustee) was returned unopposed in 2022, according to Ballotpedia, and lists endorsements from the San Mateo Daily Journal and a San Mateo County Democratic Party subcommittee.
- Frank Lara is listed on the roster as Teacher/Union Leader.
Bay Ballot shows the guides it tracks split one apiece in Area E. The Daily Journal wrote that "Richardson has been a good representative for the largely Latino Area E."
