The San Mateo Union High School District serves about 8,800 students at eight schools from San Bruno to San Mateo and Foster City, according to Ballotpedia. Three of its five trustee areas are up this year. In Area 1 (San Bruno and part of Millbrae), incumbent Teri Chavez is unopposed, the Aragon High student paper reported.
Area 3: Jennifer Jacobson vs. Diana Harris
Area 3 includes Hillsborough and the Highlands. Jennifer Jacobson (Incumbent) is the board's vice president and is seeking a second term. She cited the district's phone ban, a new districtwide academic testing system, an AI task force and more career pathway courses. Her endorsers include former trustees Peter Hanley and Linda Lees Dwyer. Diana Harris (Teacher/Mother) teaches in the San Mateo-Foster City School District. She said the board has no teacher on it and proposes regular listening sessions at high schools. She is endorsed by trustees Greg Land and Ligia Andrade Zúñiga, the district teachers union and the San Mateo County Democratic Party, according to the Aragon Outlook.
Area 5: Alison Proctor vs. Kimo Rosenbaum
Area 5 covers Foster City, where longtime trustee Robert Griffin is not running. Alison Proctor is a former two-term San Mateo-Foster City School District trustee and supports the district's cell phone ban; she is endorsed by the teachers union and the San Mateo Labor Council. Kimo Rosenbaum (Parent/Software Engineer) is running on technology issues and wants a looser cell phone policy, the Aragon Outlook reported.
