Area 2: open seat

Linda Mayo has served on the board since 1997 and is retiring. Martinez News & Views reports that the area includes Hidden Valley Elementary, the only MDUSD school in Martinez. Both candidates have personal ties to special education.

  • Dorothy Weisenberger is a family support specialist at a Concord nonprofit, an Air Force veteran and a swim coach. Since 2013 she has chaired the district’s community advisory committee on special education. Her ballot statement highlights responsible budgeting, keeping excellent educators, student mental health and safe campuses.
  • Jane Baulch-Enloe spent 31 years teaching in MDUSD and retired last year from Sequoia Middle School in Pleasant Hill. Her first priority is transparency, so the community trusts the district on future ballot measures. She also wants money focused on classrooms, dual enrollment with Diablo Valley College and less screen time.

Area 4: appointed trustee vs. challenger

  • Brian Thomas Lawrence was appointed on Aug. 4, 2025 to finish former trustee Cherise Khaund’s term, according to the district. His campaign statement, quoted on Ballotpedia, says proficiency is up 3% districtwide. It also says the district built a reserve of about $200 million that it has used for counselors, reading support and vocational programs. He says he will oppose book bans and “attacks on teachers.”
  • Al Anderson is listed on the ballot as a proposal manager. A nonpartisan voter guide, Elections Simplified, describes him as a former high school teacher whose goals are careful spending, a back-to-basics focus on reading and math, and stronger student discipline.

Each area elects one trustee to a four-year term. For logistics, see our Contra Costa voting guide.
