Coastside voters in Cabrillo Unified's Trustee Area E choose between Mary Beth Alexander (Incumbent) and Andrea Rosenthal (Teacher/Parent), according to San Mateo County's certified candidate roster.

The candidates

  • Mary Beth Alexander has served eight years on the board and has lived on the Coastside for 30 years, Coastside News reported. She works as a real estate agent after a background in biology and biomedical work, and has two children who graduated from district schools. She pointed to rebuilding work at Half Moon Bay High, including the pool, and the rebuild of El Granada Elementary.
  • Andrea Rosenthal is in her 23rd year teaching high school math and has taught at San Mateo High since 2009, according to Coastside News. She has lived on the Coastside for 21 years and has children at Cunha Intermediate.

Where they split

Alexander supports district workforce housing for staff and said it will be part of the district's facilities master plan. Rosenthal opposes district housing, citing roughly $500,000 spent on a plan that placed buildings on the Hatch Elementary field. Rosenthal said she would vote to lower the trustee stipend.

Endorsements and Area A

The Cabrillo Unified Teachers Association endorsed Rosenthal, and also backed Peter Tokofsky in Area C. In Area A, Moss Beach parent Kyle Ekberg is the only candidate and will succeed trustee Carmel Daniel, who did not run, Coastside News reported.
