The Giants' first Monday of the offseason was a busy one. Teams had until Monday to move players off the 60-day injured list, and no team had a bigger list than San Francisco. NBC Sports Bay Area reported that the front office took nine players off the roster. The team used a record-tying 71 players in 2026 and needed to get its 40-man roster back to 40.

Who's gone

Five players were claimed off waivers. Reliever José Butto went to the Texas Rangers, Duncan Davitt to the Cincinnati Reds, Brett Harris and Shay Whitcomb to the Philadelphia Phillies, and Zach Morgan to the Baltimore Orioles. Joel Kuhnel and Seth Lonsway were outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento. Reiver Sanmartín was designated for assignment.

The team also released Tristan Beck, the former Stanford pitcher. NBC Sports Bay Area said Beck is pursuing a chance to pitch in Asia next season. He made 85 appearances over the past four seasons with a 4.08 ERA.

Butto was probably the biggest surprise. The Giants had hoped he could pitch in high-leverage relief after getting him in the 2025 Tyler Rogers trade. He appeared in only three games this year because of surgery for a blood clot in his arm.

Who's back on the 40-man

The San Francisco Standard reported that 15 of the 17 players on the 60-day injured list moved back onto the 40-man roster. They include starters Adrian Houser, Hayden Birdsong, Trevor McDonald, Carson Whisenhunt and Blade Tidwell; relievers Randy Rodríguez, Keaton Winn, Joel Peguero and Rowan Wick; catchers Daniel Susac and Jesus Rodríguez; infielders Rafael Devers and Matt Chapman; and outfielders Casey Schmitt and Harrison Bader.

The trimming started last week. Grant McCray was claimed by Seattle, Braxton Roxby was claimed by Washington, and infielder Nate Furman was traded to the Nationals.

What's next

The Standard reported three dates to watch. The Rule 5 protection deadline is Nov. 17, and the nontender deadline for arbitration-eligible players is Nov. 20. The collective bargaining agreement expires Dec. 1, and a lockout is widely expected. During a lockout, teams cannot make roster moves, so the Giants have about four weeks to sign free agents or make trades before everything stops.
