Cal men’s basketball tips off its season Monday, Nov. 2, at 5 p.m. at Haas Pavilion against Adams State, a Division II program. The schools have never played before. The game streams on ACCNX. It is the first half of a doubleheader, and the Cal women play Washington State afterward.

A new-look roster

Mark Madsen enters his fourth season at Cal with a 49-50 record. Cal won 22 games last season, its most since 2016, according to the team’s game notes. Most of last year’s top scorers are gone. The roster has nine newcomers (five transfers and four true freshmen) and nine returners.

At his Thursday press conference, Madsen singled out Pitt transfer Nojus Indrusaitis, a 6-foot-5 guard who averaged 9.1 points per game last season. “Nojus can pass, dribble and shoot. He shoots at a high level,” Madsen told The Daily Californian. Guard Jordan Ross, a transfer from Georgia who began his college career at Saint Mary’s, is expected to help lead the group.

Returning forward Lee Dort, who averaged 8.0 points and 7.8 rebounds last season, is day-to-day with an ankle sprain, Madsen said. It was unclear whether he would play Monday.

If you go

The first 3,000 fans will get a rally towel. Cal hosts Radford on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m., then plays Houston on Nov. 8 at Lake Tahoe. Cal was picked low in the league this preseason; see our preseason poll story.
