Fairfield police have arrested a 17-year-old boy in Friday night's shooting at the Spirit Halloween store at Solano Town Center. Bay City News reported that he was arrested Monday at a home on Harrier Drive in Suisun City. Police are not naming him because he is a minor.
What police say happened
The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. Friday, while shoppers were buying last-minute costumes. Police told Bay City News they believe the teen walked in, spotted the person they think was his intended target, and opened fire. At a press conference, police spokesperson Michelle Belyea said the gunfire hit the victim and six other people inside the store, KQED reported.
Constance Hages, 31, who was pregnant, died at the scene. Bay City News reported that one of the wounded, a 19-year-old, was still in critical condition Monday. KQED reported that Police Chief Dan Marshall would not say whether Hages was the intended target.
How he was identified
KQED reported that a school resource officer identified the suspect within hours of the attack. He was booked on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. Chief Marshall told Bay City News the teen was also connected to a 2025 shooting and had served time in juvenile hall before being released. "It's time for change in California," Marshall said. "I don't know how many more people have to be killed by youth."
