Fairfield police have named the woman killed in Friday night's shooting at a Spirit Halloween store as Constance Hages, 31. Police said her family told detectives she was pregnant. NBC Bay Area reported that police will confirm this after the Solano County coroner's examination.
The wounded
The shooting happened at about 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, inside the store at the Solano Town Center mall. Six males aged 16 to 43 were also shot, according to police updates reported by KQED and NBC Bay Area:
- A 16-year-old, a 19-year-old and a 32-year-old are in critical condition.
- A 23-year-old is in critical but stable condition.
- A second 19-year-old and a 43-year-old were treated and released.
The investigation
Police believe the shooting "stemmed from a targeted incident" involving one suspect inside the store. It is not clear whether any of the victims were the target, KQED reported. No one has been arrested. Police said they are reviewing video and other evidence. The FBI's Sacramento field office sent its Evidence Response Team to help.
The mall stayed open Saturday but canceled its Mall-o-Ween event, KQED reported. Spirit Halloween said in a statement, reported by NBC Bay Area, that the store will stay closed until further notice.
"Fairfield's greatest strength is how we all look out for each other," Mayor Rick Vaccaro said Saturday. Rep. John Garamendi, who represents Fairfield, called it a "horrific tragedy."
