East Side Union runs high schools across East San Jose and part of Milpitas. Until now, all five trustees were elected at large. According to the district, it received a notice in February 2025 alleging a violation of the California Voting Rights Act. On Oct. 3, 2025, the board adopted a five-district map and a schedule for which seats come up when. San José Spotlight reported the vote was unanimous and that one trustee seat was set on a shorter temporary term so it can line up with presidential-year elections.

On the ballot

  • District 1 (special election): Mer Curry Nuñez, Patricia Martinez-Roach and Paul Pham are running, according to Ballotpedia.
  • District 4: Incumbent Lorena Chavez faces Mahbub Khan and Tony Lam.
  • District 2: Anthony Montes was the only candidate, so the race was canceled and he wins without appearing on the ballot.

How to tell which district you're in

Your ballot shows only the race for your trustee district. If you live in District 3 or 5, you won't see an East Side Union race this year. The district's by-district elections page has the adopted map. Need logistics? See our Santa Clara County voting guide.

How to vote
