San Francisco's Community Music Center presents Día de Muertos en la Misión on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 4 p.m. at Mission Dolores Basilica, 3321 16th St. The entrance is on Dolores Street.
Who's performing
All three featured groups are ensembles of the nonprofit music school, Mission Local reports. Coro de Cámara will perform traditional music from Spain and Cuba, Coro Solera will sing traditional songs from Mexico and Argentina, and Mariachi CMC will play mariachi standards. The center says guest artists will also perform, with CMC faculty and staff on accordion, piano, bass and percussion.
Tickets and reception
Tickets are $15 general, $10 for seniors and $5 for youth 18 and under, online or at the door, and no one is turned away for lack of funds. After the concert, guests can stay for a community celebration with pan de muerto, tamales and hot chocolate for sale. Parking is available in the schoolyard, entered from Church Street.
The concert opens a busy Día de los Muertos stretch in the Mission. Mission Local reports that the annual celebration at Potrero del Sol Park follows on Monday, Nov. 2, and the evening procession starts at 7 p.m. at Bryant and 22nd streets.
