In Danville's Blackhawk Plaza, a museum holds some of the rarest cars in the Bay Area.
The museum
Ken Behring and Don Williams began a partnership in 1982, and the Blackhawk Automotive Museum opened in August 1988, according to Wikipedia. Its collection has about 90 cars, alongside four other galleries: The Spirit of the Old West, Art of Africa, Into China and World of Nature. It belongs to the nonprofit Behring Global Educational Foundation and is a Smithsonian affiliate. It sits in the Blackhawk Plaza shopping center but isn't affiliated with it.
Open
In February, the museum said recent news about Blackhawk Plaza does not affect it: it operates under separate, independent ownership, is not closing, and its hours are unchanged. In March it announced it was named Best Museum in the East Bay in the East Bay Times' 2026 "Best in the East Bay" awards.
This week
The museum's calendar lists a Changemaker Speaker Series talk on Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. with Casey Anderson, "Among Wild Predators," about grizzlies, mountain lions, tigers and more. A Halloween-themed Cruise for Kids car show benefiting Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford was held Oct. 25.
