Walnut Creek will mark Veterans Day with its annual ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Lesher Center for the Arts, 1601 Civic Drive. The event is free and open to the public.
What to expect
- The ceremony opens with the ringing of 11 bells in honor of veterans, a nod to the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
- Remarks from Mayor Kevin Wilk, a presentation of colors, the national anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance.
- A keynote address by U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Patrick Lieneweg.
- Patriotic music from the Walnut Creek Concert Band, which bills itself as the city's official band, including selections honoring each branch of the military.
- A moment of silence and a blessing.
According to Claycord, this year's observance will emphasize service, community and continued support for veterans. The concert band lists the event as a joint presentation with the City of Walnut Creek, "with words and music."
