San Francisco's long-empty former Best Buy at Geary Boulevard and Masonic Avenue finally has a tenant with an opening date. T&T Supermarket, the Asian grocery chain based in Canada, will open its first San Francisco store at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 2675 Geary Blvd., the company announced this week.

The store takes up roughly 50,000 square feet on the upper level of the City Center shopping plaza in Anza Vista, where it joins neighbors including Target. It will be T&T's second Bay Area location after the San Jose store at Westgate Center, which opened in June and became the chain's first in California.

What will be inside

According to the company's announcement, as reported by KRON4, the San Francisco store will have a hot food bar, a barbecue station, a sushi counter, a beauty section stocked with Korean and Japanese products, and a cafe making drinks to order. SFist reported it will be the first T&T in the U.S. with a cafe.

The San Francisco Standard, which toured the San Jose store, singled out its sushi platters, roast meats and a fried chicken item that has built a following, and noted that many prices end in 88 cents, since eight is considered a lucky number in Chinese culture.

A space with a long, stalled history

The space has been vacant since Best Buy closed in 2017. Whole Foods signed a lease in 2019 but spent years stuck in permitting fights and appeals, and in January 2025 it and the landlord, Acadia Realty Trust, agreed to end the lease. T&T signed for the space that March.

T&T CEO Tina Lee told the San Francisco Chronicle that she reached out to then Mayor-elect Daniel Lurie in late 2024 because of the Whole Foods saga, and that his team promised to help with permits. She said it was the fastest permitting process the company has had in the U.S.

More stores coming

The chain has more California stores planned. Reports from SFist and local outlets say a Newark store in a former Macy's is expected in winter 2027 and would be T&T's largest in California, while a Millbrae store in a former Lucky supermarket is not expected before mid-to-late 2027. KRON4 reported Chino Hills and Irvine are also on the list.

If you plan to go on opening day, expect crowds: the San Jose opening drew heavy lines, and the company has not announced any special opening-day arrangements beyond the 9 a.m. start.
