For the first time, Redwood Park, the grove of redwoods beside the Transamerica Pyramid, will host a holiday market. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that it opens Dec. 10 with a tree lighting ceremony and runs Thursdays through Sundays for the rest of the month.

Who's behind it

The market is organized by Yoda, the Pyramid's new owner, and RASA World, the experiential events company behind the recent Pier Play festival at Pier 70. "We're activating the Transamerica Pyramid Center in a way that's never been done before," RASA CEO Ahmad Muhaisen said in a statement quoted by both the Chronicle and SFist.

What to expect

  • 12 nights of programming, with live music, holiday movie screenings, Santa appearances and family activities (Chronicle).
  • Holiday chalets around the redwood grove, in the style of European Christmas markets, selling gifts, warm drinks and seasonal food from local businesses (SFist).
  • A large Christmas tree and "thousands of twinkling lights" (SFist).
  • An alpine-inspired cocktail lounge. SFist said it may take over the former Ama restaurant space, which has been empty since May.

Organizers say vendor and programming details will be announced later. The Chronicle described the market as part of the owner's effort to turn the aging office complex into a public gathering place.
