The Marsh on Valencia Street is known for solo shows. Its next world premiere has a cast of four.

The story

In Lynne Kaufman's The Secret Museum, documentary filmmaker Francesca gets exclusive access to a newly excavated fresco in Pompeii. It's said to hold startling evidence about sex and the sacred, and she gets in through Paolo, the museum's director and her old college sweetheart. The play follows three couples across three time periods. SF Station quotes Marsh founder Stephanie Weisman, who calls it "a rich and sensual tale" and notes it breaks from the theater's usual slate of solo performances.

Who's involved

Warren David Keith directs. He previously directed Kaufman's Who Killed Sylvia Plath and The Smartest Woman in America at The Marsh, and his film credits include Fargo and The Big Lebowski. The cast is Arwen Anderson, Johnny Moreno, Lyndsy Kail and Joseph O'Malley. Kaufman has written 20 full-length plays. Her last, Shameless Hussy, premiered at The Marsh in spring 2025.
