Stanford men’s basketball opens Monday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. against Eastern Washington at Maples Pavilion. The game streams on ACCNX. Stanford has won 16 straight season openers.

Starting over

Kyle Smith’s Stanford team went 20-13 last season, including 9-9 in the ACC, but its top five scorers are gone. Aidan Cammann and Donavin Young return. The newcomers include Christian Bliss from Delaware, Austin Maurer from Seattle and Nick Townsend from Yale, the 2026 Ivy League player of the year.

The exhibitions were rough. Julius Price scored 26 in an 83-78 loss at Santa Clara on Oct. 17. Aziz Olajuwon, the son of Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon, scored 16 in an 85-57 loss at Oregon.

The opponent

Eastern Washington went 14-19 last season and was picked third in the Big Sky. Alton Hamilton IV and Andrew Cook lead the Eagles. This is the fourth meeting; Stanford won the last one 95-70 on Nov. 17, 2023.
