College basketball season is almost here, and Stanford wants a loud crowd. Stanford Athletics is calling its two home openers at Maples Pavilion "Campus Craze," a pair of student-focused nights with giveaways, performances and a dorm competition.
The games
- Men: vs. Eastern Washington, Monday, Nov. 2, 7 p.m.
- Women: vs. Saint Mary's, Wednesday, Nov. 4, 7 p.m.
What's planned
According to The Stanford Daily, both games will have free food at halftime, shirts and posters, a postgame raffle, a prize for the loudest fan and a chance for a student to sink a half-court shot for $5,000. A "student takeover" will award a grand prize to the residence with the most students in the stands.
The men's opener features a pregame DJ set, an anthem by the a cappella group Counterpoint and a halftime set by the dance group DV8. The women's opener brings another student DJ, a group anthem and a halftime performance by the O-Tone. Free shirts at the women's game were designed by students in the FashionX club.
"We're going to Stanford's roots as a school that loves sports," Lilli Whelan, FashionX's merchandise coordinator, told the Daily. Stanford Athletics lists Campus Craze on its promotions schedule, and the general public can buy tickets through gostanford.com.
