The league's 18 coaches and its Blue Ribbon Panel picked Stanford 13th in the ACC women's basketball predicted order of finish, with 674 points from 76 voters. That's just behind Georgia Tech (684) and Miami (689), and ahead of Florida State, SMU, Wake Forest, Pitt and Boston College. Duke was picked first with 49 first-place votes. Cal was picked 10th.
Where Stanford stands
Last season Stanford went 21-14 overall and 8-10 in the ACC, and missed the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year, according to Cardinal Sports Report. Kate Paye, who is in her third season as head coach, has built the team around guard Hailee Swain and center Alexandra Eschmeyer.
Junior guard Shay Ijiwoye is a key returner. The site also names three transfers to watch: junior forwards Ilse De Vries and Inés Sotelo Míguez, and sophomore forward Charlotte Tuhy. Many players transferred out, so the roster has changed a lot.
Opening night
Stanford opens Monday, Nov. 2, against Arizona in the Hall of Fame Series in Las Vegas, according to the ACC. No Stanford player made the 10-player preseason all-conference team.
