The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors adopted an updated Active Transportation Plan on Tuesday, the Sonoma Valley Sun reported. It will guide bike lanes, safer pedestrian crossings and better links between communities in unincorporated Sonoma County.
What the plan does
Permit Sonoma wrote the plan with the Sonoma County Transportation and Climate Authorities. It replaces the county's 2010 Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. The county's project page says it covers the unincorporated areas and was shaped by community input. The Sun says that input came from workshops, pop-up events and surveys over a three-year effort.
"Safe, accessible walking and biking routes are essential to healthy, connected communities," said Supervisor Rebecca Hermosillo, who chairs the board.
Part of a countywide framework
The vote was the last step in a regional effort that included all nine incorporated cities as well as the county. Their 10 local plans now fit into one countywide framework for biking, walking and rolling.
No money yet
Adopting the plan doesn't fund any projects or approve construction. Its main job is to make the county's grant applications stronger. Projects will move ahead as money and approvals come through. Maps and the project list are at PermitSonoma.org/ATP.
