Two Vacaville elected officials are spending heavily in the race for Solano County's District 4 supervisor seat. Mayor John Carli and Councilmember Mike Silva are competing for the open seat on Nov. 3, The Reporter and Bay City News reported.

The seat. District 4 covers Dixon and part of Vacaville, about 96,000 residents. Supervisor John Vasquez is not running again after a cancer diagnosis. Silva finished first in the June primary.

The money. Carli reported $46,597 in contributions from Oct. 15 to Oct. 22, much of it from agricultural businesses, construction interests and individuals. Through Oct. 17 he had raised $216,110.85 and spent $175,179.12. Silva has raised $246,665 and spent $182,085. His large donors include SEIU Local 1021, which gave $10,000 and then $30,000, and the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, which gave $10,000.

The race has turned sharp. Carli posted an AI-generated video on social media titled 'SEIU Buy Your Boss,' attacking Silva's union backing and voting record, The Reporter said.

The issues. Bay City News reported that the county faces a $36.6 million deficit. Carli, a retired Vacaville police chief elected mayor in 2022, is campaigning on public safety and economic growth and has backed a plan from the people behind California Forever to rezone hundreds of acres in southern Solano County for a large shipbuilding project. Supervisors voted against moving that plan forward in August.

Vacaville voters are also deciding Measure V, a 1% sales tax. The committee backing it has raised $165,856.
