Santa Rosa Junior College's board has two contested seats on Nov. 3. In Trustee Area 5, the central Santa Rosa seat, longtime trustee Dorothy Battenfeld faces Leticia Contreras, the Press Democrat reports.

The candidates

  • Dorothy Battenfeld (SRJC Trustee/Educator). Battenfeld's county voter guide statement describes a longtime public school teacher whose goals include basic-needs services for students, community partnerships, transparency, and fiscal and environmental sustainability.
  • Leticia Contreras (Anthropologist/Archaeologist). Contreras's statement says she holds a master's in anthropology, is a Ph.D. candidate and taught anthropology at SRJC for five years, including serving as faculty coordinator for the opening of the Native American Center.

Endorsements

Bay Ballot counts three Sonoma County guides backing Battenfeld and none backing Contreras: the Sonoma County Asian Pacific Islander Democratic Club, California Environmental Voters and the California Working Families Party.

Also on the ballot: SRJC's $830 million Measure AB bond. See also the Area 7 race.
