Three of the district’s five seats were up this year. Ballotpedia reports that the Area 1 and Area 4 elections were canceled because only one candidate filed in each. Amanda Butland wins Area 1 and incumbent Susanna Ordway keeps Area 4 without appearing on the ballot.
The candidates
- Rachel Hurd is seeking a sixth term in Area 5, Danville San Ramon reports.
- Joel Woods has lived in the San Ramon Valley for more than 20 years and works as a substitute teacher at several East Bay schools. His priorities include keeping academic standards high, expanding access to advanced curriculum and giving teachers “a meaningful voice in curriculum and instructional decisions.” He also stresses responsible use of public money and more community input. “That requires listening before decisions are made, not simply communicating afterward,” he said.
Only voters who live in Area 5 will see this race. For logistics, see our Contra Costa voting guide.
How to vote
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polls and vote centers close at 8 p.m., and mailed ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and arrive within seven days. You can check your registration and ballot status at sos.ca.gov/elections. California lets you register and vote the same day at a vote center. For more local races and measures, see our 2026 Bay Area election hub.
