Reading the numbers

One month is a small sample in a city of about 34,000, so a handful of incidents can swing the percentages. Larceny, which includes retail theft, makes up most of the reported crime. Police routinely remind drivers not to leave bags or electronics visible in parked cars, the simplest way to avoid becoming a theft statistic.
