San Pablo police have made an arrest in the killing of Luis "Luigi" Ramirez, the 33-year-old man found dead inside his car on Sunday, Oct. 25. (Our earlier report covered the discovery.)
According to the San Pablo Police Department, detectives identified Jose Jesus Cornelio-Aguirre, 18, of San Pablo, as the person they believe is responsible. He was found in the 1400 block of North Victoria Court and taken into custody on the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 27, within 48 hours of the start of the investigation. He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on suspicion of murder, with formal charges to be decided with the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office.
What police say happened
Investigators believe Ramirez and the suspect were acquaintances and that Ramirez was shot in the early morning hours of Sunday after an altercation between the two. Officers found him unresponsive inside a parked red Toyota in the 1600 block of 16th Street just before 2:30 p.m. that day. Police have not said what the altercation was about.
The department credited "an outpouring of cooperation, support, and information from the community" and the city's network of public safety technology for the quick arrest. ABC7 reports that Ramirez moved to San Pablo 14 years ago and was originally from El Salvador.
The investigation is ongoing, and police ask anyone with information to contact the San Pablo Police Department's investigations division.
