Polls close at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3. Here’s what to expect from North Bay results.

Sonoma County

The Sonoma County Registrar of Voters says results will begin posting shortly after 8 p.m. on Election Night.

Solano County

Solano County’s unofficial results page lists Nov. 3 as its next update. It shows 275,846 registered voters as of Oct. 19.

What comes first, and what comes later

The Secretary of State says counties must send their first report within two hours of starting to tally, and keep updating after that. The first numbers are mostly mail and early ballots counted before Election Day. Ballots cast in person on Tuesday, and mail ballots dropped off late, come later.

A mail ballot counts if it’s postmarked by Election Day and arrives within seven days. Voters whose signatures don’t match can fix them until eight days before certification. Counties also run a 1% manual tally to check the machines, and have 30 days to finish the official count.

For other counties, see the Contra Costa, San Mateo and Alameda schedule, San Francisco’s timeline and when California results become final.
