Downtown San Francisco is starting Halloween weekend a day early. Nightmare on Front Street, a free Halloween block party, takes over the Front Street Entertainment Zone on Friday, Oct. 30, SFGuide reports.

What to expect

The Downtown SF Partnership's event page describes live DJs, themed cocktails, food, spooky activities and costumes. It calls Nightmare on Front a larger version of the area's regular block parties. The entertainment zone sits on Front Street between California and Sacramento streets, home to downtown bars including Schroeder's and Harrington's Bar & Grill.

Rules

  • The party is free and open to all ages.
  • Anyone who wants to drink must be 21 or older and show a valid ID.
  • Bikes, strollers and dogs are welcome.
  • The event is smoke-free under the city health code.

Getting there

The event page says the block party is about a four-minute walk from Embarcadero BART and Muni station. The address is 245 Front Street.

For the rest of the weekend, see the Castro's Halloween night market on 18th Street and the Furthur bus send-off on Haight Street on Saturday.
