Napa Valley Unified, which Ballotpedia says served 16,103 students in 26 schools in the 2025 school year, has three contested trustee races on Nov. 3: Areas 1, 6 and 7. Area 3 was uncontested and is off the ballot, the Press Democrat reports.

The candidates

  • Elba Gonzalez-Mares (Executive Director/Incumbent). Gonzalez-Mares's county voter guide statement says Gonzalez-Mares has served the district since 2016 and points to the district's strategic plan and the passage of its school bond. It names declining enrollment as an ongoing financial and operational challenge.
  • Tyrone Navarro (Public Servant Manager, Retired). Navarro's statement describes a U.S. Navy veteran and retired public-sector executive with degrees from UC Berkeley and the University of San Francisco who has served on the American Canyon Planning Commission.

The Press Democrat spelled the challenger's first name "Tyron"; the county statement and Ballotpedia use "Tyrone."
