Napa Valley College has three contested trustee races on Nov. 3, in Areas 2, 3 and 4. The Area 5 seat was uncontested and is off the ballot, the Press Democrat reports.

The candidates

  • Jeff Dodd (College Trustee/Attorney). Dodd's county voter guide statement says construction started on a new Wine Education Center after a $10 million private donation. It also cites career-training partnerships with employers and programs for students facing housing and food insecurity. The statement lists endorsements from Rep. Mike Thompson and Napa Mayor Scott Sedgley.
  • Heriverto Ruiz (School Counselor). Ruiz's statement says he attended the college's Child Development Center as a child, began his own higher education at NVC and went on to earn a master's in school counseling. He promises stronger transfer and career pathways and more support for first-generation students.
