A passenger was stabbed early Monday, Oct. 26, on a Muni 5 Fulton Owl bus in San Francisco's Western Addition, and the attacker got away. Police were called to Laguna and McAllister streets at about 1:13 a.m., according to the San Francisco Police Department.
Why it matters: It is the second serious knife attack on a Muni bus in about a month, though the transit agency says assaults on the system are far below pre-pandemic levels.
What happened
Officers found a wounded passenger and gave first aid until medics arrived, police said. The suspect had already left the bus.
Police searched the area but did not find the attacker. No description has been released, the San Francisco Standard reported.
The fire department said a private ambulance took the victim to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, arriving at 1:26 a.m. Crews waited for police to secure the scene first, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
How badly was the victim hurt?
Reports differ. The Standard said the victim was in serious condition. SFMTA spokesperson Erica Kato said the agency was "grateful that the victim's injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening."
Muni assault numbers
The SFMTA says police-investigated aggravated assaults on Muni fell from 1,089 in 2019 to 307 through July 2026, a drop of nearly 72%.
On Sept. 23, a 14 Mission passenger was slashed in the throat.
What's next
No arrest had been announced as of Monday afternoon. Police have asked anyone with information to contact SFPD.
