Lowriders will cruise Mission Street on Saturday, Oct. 10, for the San Francisco Lowrider Council's annual Cold Frisco Night event, and Muni riders in the Mission should be ready for possible detours.
According to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, participants will gather around 4 p.m. on Mission Street between Cesar Chavez and 22nd streets before cruising through the neighborhood. The event appears on the council's 2026 calendar as the Cold Frisco Night Cruise, one of the group's last events of the year before its Nov. 7 dinner dance.
Which Muni lines could be affected
SFMTA says the 14 Mission, 14R Mission Rapid, 27 Bryant, 48 Quintara/24th Street, 49 Van Ness/Mission and 67 Bernal Heights may detour around the event area. The agency stresses that these are contingency plans: some reroutes may take effect, others may not, and none may be needed at all.
If the 14 Mission does detour, outbound buses would leave Mission at 17th Street and run via 17th, South Van Ness and Cesar Chavez before returning to Mission, with temporary flag stops on South Van Ness at 22nd, 24th and 26th streets. Inbound buses would follow a mirror-image path from Cesar Chavez up South Van Ness to 20th Street. The posted contingency window for the 14 runs from noon to 11 p.m.
SFMTA recommends signing up for real-time Muni alerts by email or text through its subscriptions page before heading out.
Also this weekend: a 45th anniversary exhibit
The Lowrider Council is also marking its 45th anniversary with a free exhibition at the Mission Cultural Center, 2868 Mission St. An event listing describes framed photographs, posters, collages, car club banners and apparel, a custom lowrider bicycle, and a feature on Low Creations Car Club, which it calls the oldest lowrider club in San Francisco. The listing gives Saturday hours of noon to 6 p.m. and says the show is open Tuesday through Saturday.
Plan ahead
In past years the cruise has drawn crowds and heavy traffic along 24th and Mission into the evening. Drivers should expect congestion, and anyone parking nearby should avoid spaces reserved for Muni. Riders heading through the Mission on Saturday afternoon and evening may want to allow extra time or consider BART's 24th Street station as an alternative.
