Julius' Castle now has an opening date. The restaurant on the east side of Telegraph Hill will reopen to the public on Thursday, Nov. 12, AFAR and The San Francisco Standard reported. We wrote last week that owner Paul Scott was aiming for early November.

The castle

Julius' Castle opened in 1922 and closed in 2007. Scott, an attorney, bought the building in 2012. AFAR reported that the restoration dealt with permits, neighbors worried about parking, a fire, landslides and the pandemic. Chef Christopher Santopinto, who has worked at Park Tavern, State Bird Provisions and Delfina, runs the kitchen. AFAR said dishes in development include Dungeness crab cakes, garlic noodles and mushroom ravioli. Some produce comes from the terraced garden next to the building.

Parking is very limited. Valet will be offered, but Scott hopes many guests will walk up, for example by the Filbert Street Steps. Reservations will be on OpenTable.

More November openings

The Standard listed four more places opening this month:

  • Lorella, 2139 Polk St.: a bakery from chef Melissa Perello and pastry chef Melissa Loar, opening in late November.
  • Stir Crazy, 1400 Lombard St.: a neighborhood cocktail bar from longtime Mezcalito bartender Jacob Morris, in the former Black Magic Voodoo Lounge space.
  • Scout, 2359 Chestnut St.: an all-day cafe from the team behind Norcina and Frankie's, opening early to mid-November.
  • Bare Bones, 2325 Taraval St.: a rotisserie counter in the former Bearing West space, opening in early November.
