An Alameda County jury has convicted Jamazea Kittell, 33, of first-degree murder, with enhancements for using a gun and for a drive-by shooting. He was also convicted of assault with a firearm and of possessing guns and ammunition as a felon, Bay Area News Group reported.
The shooting
Police say that on July 9, 2025, Kittell pulled up on the 9400 block of C Street in Oakland and fired at two men working on a car. Perez Kalief-Chambers, 23, was killed. The second man was underneath the vehicle and was not hit. The motive is still unclear.
Investigators tied Kittell to an Acura seen in surveillance footage. That footage included errands in late June 2025: a service visit in Modesto and a stop at a Target in Livermore. He was arrested July 11, 2025, at his brother's home in Apple Valley. Guns were found with him, but none was the murder weapon, prosecutors said. His lawyer argued that his past use of the car did not prove he was the shooter.
The Vallejo case
At the time of the killing, Kittell was out on bail in Solano County. On June 27, 2023, Vallejo police Officer Brad Kim shot Kittell in the face at a gas station at 1401 Springs Road, where officers had responded to a reported burglary. Kim said Kittell's Dodge Charger lunged toward him, according to the Vallejo Sun's coverage of the preliminary hearing.
Prosecutors charged Kittell with attempted murder of a police officer. In October 2023, Solano County Superior Court Judge Robert Bowers ruled that the evidence supported only assault with a deadly weapon and set bail at $100,000, the Vallejo Sun reported. Bowers said at the time that he considered Kittell a potential danger and a flight risk. BANG reported that Kittell bailed out the next day. Those Solano charges are still pending.
What's next
Kittell has two prior robbery convictions in Alameda County and a gun possession conviction in Contra Costa County. He faces 50 years to life for the murder and firearm enhancement alone, and he remains in jail awaiting sentencing.
