The Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office has charged Thomas Iovenitti, 40, with murder in the death of his wife, 39-year-old Alisha Iovenitti, at their home in the 2300 block of Panoramic Drive in Concord, according to News24-680 and ABC7.

What police say happened

Concord police were called to the home just before 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, after a report of a disturbance involving a man and a knife. News24-680 reported that the call came from one of the couple's children, who is believed to have seen the attack and called from a neighbor's home. Officers forced their way inside and found the woman and man with stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. He was taken to a hospital with wounds police said were self-inflicted.

Out on bail

In May, Iovenitti was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, corporal injury to a spouse and false imprisonment in an earlier attack on his wife. Prosecutors objected when a judge set bail at $1,000, according to the district attorney's office. The court issued stay-away orders barring him from contacting her or returning to the home.

The charges

The complaint filed Tuesday charges him with murder with personal use of a knife, along with dissuading a witness from reporting a crime, assault with a deadly weapon and corporal injury to a spouse. News24-680 reported it also includes misdemeanor counts of violating a court order and four counts of child endangerment. He was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Martinez and is being held without bail.

The charges are allegations, and Iovenitti is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
