The Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office has charged Thomas Iovenitti, 40, with murder in the stabbing death of his wife, Alisha Iovenitti, at their Concord home. Prosecutors say he was out on bail in a pending domestic violence case at the time.

What police found

Concord police were called to the 2300 block of Panoramic Drive shortly before 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, after a report of a disturbance involving a man and a knife, KTVU reported. Officers went into the home and found a man and a woman unresponsive with stab wounds. Alisha Iovenitti was pronounced dead at the scene.

The earlier case

Prosecutors said Iovenitti was out on $1,000 bail in a domestic violence case filed in May. A stay-away order barred him from contacting his wife or returning to the family home. In that case he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, corporal injury to a spouse and false imprisonment, according to KTVU, which cited charging documents and the DA's office.

What's next

Iovenitti remains in custody on the murder charge and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, Oct. 28. Charges are allegations; he has not entered a plea in the murder case.
