Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has been charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession following an Oct. 12 traffic stop in Carmel, Ind., according to court records reported by WRTV.
Why it matters: The former No. 4 overall pick has not taken a snap this season as Daniel Jones' backup.
The stop
According to a probable cause affidavit cited by WRTV, an officer stopped Richardson's car over an expired plate and reported smelling marijuana. Richardson allegedly said he smoked in the car to avoid doing so around his children. Police reported finding a small jar of marijuana and THC gummies. He received a citation and a summons and was not arrested.
What's next
A bench trial is scheduled for Jan. 4. The Colts said they were aware of the situation and gathering information. The charge is an allegation, and Richardson has not been convicted.
