The Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Denver Nuggets 96-84 in Thursday's home opener, but Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's NBA-record streak of 20-point games ended at 141 when he finished with 17 points on 6-of-19 shooting.
Why it matters: The streak began Nov. 1, 2024, and carried the two-time reigning MVP past Wilt Chamberlain's record.
How it ended
Gilgeous-Alexander missed all seven shots he took in the first half. He hit a 3-pointer to reach 17 points with 1:44 left, then asked to come out during a timeout and did not return. "He asked out at the end," coach Mark Daigneault said, calling it a show of "tremendous class as a competitor."

Jalen Williams scored 21 and Chet Holmgren had 12 points and 17 rebounds. Aaron Gordon led Denver with 20, while Nikola Jokic and DeMar DeRozan added 13 each. OKC is 2-0 and hosts the Clippers on Sunday.
