The San Jose Sharks beat the Ottawa Senators 6-2 at Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026, for their first regulation win of the season. Collin Graf and Jacob Trouba each had a goal and an assist, and San Jose improved to 6-4-1.
Why it matters: The Sharks' first five wins all came in overtime or a shootout. "There's been some comments from people, you know, looking for regulation wins, so it's nice to finally get that," Graf said, per NHL.com.
How it happened
- Tim Stutzle put Ottawa ahead in the first period; Nolan Allan tied it.
- San Jose scored power-play, short-handed and even-strength goals in a 4:05 span of the second period: Tyler Toffoli, then Graf short-handed, then Trouba.
- Zack Ostapchuk (short-handed) and Ivar Stenberg added empty-net goals late.
- Yaroslav Askarov, who had lost his previous four starts, made 41 saves by NHL.com's count (the AP had 39).
"We were under siege for the majority of that game. So, I think he made some big saves at big times," coach Ryan Warsofsky said of Askarov.
Injury note and what's next
Forward Igor Chernyshov left in the first period after blocking a slap shot with his left arm and will be evaluated Friday. "He's gonna be out here a little bit," Warsofsky said.
It was the Sharks' first game with multiple short-handed goals since Dec. 7, 2023. San Jose plays at Boston on Saturday night.
