Coastside voters have real choices this fall, including the Half Moon Bay council races and contested seats on the Coastside Fire board. But a long list of local seats drew only one candidate, or none, and San Mateo County's roster marks them "On Ballot: No."

San Mateo County Harbor District

Incumbents George W. Domurat in District 2 and Kathryn Slater-Carter in District 3 were unopposed, according to the roster and Coastside Buzz's candidate chart. The district runs Pillar Point Harbor and Oyster Point Marina.

Water, sewer and fire

At Coastside County Water District, appointed incumbent David R. Dickson (Zone 1, short term) and Chris R. Mickelsen (Zone 2) had no challengers. At Coastside Fire, Patrick Hanna was the only candidate in District C. At Montara Water and Sanitary District, Bill Softky (Division 1) and Scott Boyd (Division 3) were unopposed, and Virginia "Ginny" McShane was the only candidate in Division 5 after incumbent Leah Champion did not file.

Too few candidates

The Midcoast Community Council had four at-large seats open and only two candidates, Scott Edward Bollinger and Joan K. Brennan. The Pescadero Municipal Advisory Council had two seats and one candidate, Cullen Rose. Both remain off the ballot. Seats without enough candidates can be filled by appointment.

Still on your ballot

Coastside County Water's Zone 5 race and the Granada Community Services District race are contested; see our Zone 5 explainer and our Granada explainer.

How to vote

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polls and vote centers close at 8 p.m., and mailed ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and arrive within seven days. You can check your registration and ballot status at sos.ca.gov/elections. California lets you register and vote the same day at a vote center.
