A bipartisan pledge circulating in Congress asks House members to accept this fall's election results and oppose any effort to block the seating of members next year. Most of California's Republican members haven't signed it, CalMatters reported.
What the pledge is
The pledge was authored by Reps. Don Bacon, R-Neb., and Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J. NPR reported it addresses an unlikely scenario discussed among Democrats and democracy advocates: that Republicans could cite fraud allegations to block certain members from the House roll on Jan. 3, 2027, keeping an incoming Democratic majority from taking power.
Where California's members stand
California's delegation has eight Republicans and one independent who caucuses with them. CalMatters found that only Rep. Kevin Kiley had signed. Rep. Young Kim's office said she "will seat new members," while the rest either declined to answer or did not respond.
No Bay Area House member is a Republican; the region's delegation is entirely Democratic.
