If you ride BART through the East Bay next Sunday, build in extra time. The Green Line will not run at all on Sunday, Oct. 18, and trains between San Leandro and Bay Fair will share a single track for most of the day.
What's happening
BART says crews will be in the trackway between San Leandro and Bay Fair stations to clear vegetation that could threaten safe and reliable service. The work starts before trains begin running that morning and is scheduled to finish at 6 p.m. Riders in the area should expect delays of 25 to 30 minutes. All 50 stations will stay open.
How to get around it
The Green Line normally connects Berryessa in San Jose with Daly City. On Oct. 18, BART says East Bay riders who usually take it can ride the Orange Line to Bay Fair and transfer to a Blue Line train to cross the bay. Riders coming from San Francisco can take the Blue Line and switch to the Orange Line at Bay Fair. To make room for the extra riders, Orange and Blue line trains will run with eight cars instead of six all day.
Not the first time
BART has cancelled Green Line service on Sundays for trackside vegetation work before. After a tree fell across the tracks near Union City Station in October 2025 and disrupted service for hours, the agency scheduled single-track Sunday work between Bay Fair and Fremont from November 2025 through January 2026. Railway Supply, which compared the agency's alerts, found that the 25- to 30-minute delay estimate for Oct. 18 is the longest of those closures. BART's alert for this Sunday does not tie the San Leandro work to the fallen tree.
The closure falls the weekend after Fleet Week, when BART ran longer trains for the waterfront air shows. Riders can sign up for BART's email and text alerts for updates on the day.
