Athanor, the new restaurant from chef Mike Lanham, is now serving in the former Anomaly space at 2600 Sutter St. in San Francisco. Eater SF reported in mid-September that Lanham was welcoming diners back that week.

Why Anomaly closed

Anomaly closed on June 20. Lanham told Eater SF that he had pushed past his limits for 18 months and described the result as burnout, including bouts of short-term memory loss. After five weeks of rest, he said he wanted a slower, more sustainable restaurant where he isn't "the sole point of failure."

The menu

Athanor keeps a 10-course tasting menu, $175 per person, according to Eater SF. The name refers to the stove used in alchemy. Lanham says the menu is a "vast departure" from Anomaly, though the fan-favorite egg dish stays. Eater lists dishes such as a fermented green tomato meringue that takes 30 days to make, a savory potato ice cream with black truffle cheese, a prosciutto panna cotta and quail-leg sausage wrapped in quail. The team is leaning hard into fermentation.

Hours

Athanor's website lists dinner Tuesday from 7 to 11 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday from 6 to 11 p.m.; it's closed Sunday and Monday. Eater says there are two seatings a night, with reservations through the website.
