The Arc web browser will stop working on Mac and Windows on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2026, The Browser Company announced Thursday, Oct. 22. Users are being pointed to Dia, the company's AI-first browser.

Why it matters: Arc was popular with tech workers. Anyone still using it needs to move their tabs and data before Dec. 22, or lose access.

Key dates

  • Oct. 22: No new Arc accounts.
  • Nov. 23: Arc Search for iOS and Android loses its AI features, sign-in and sync. It keeps working as a basic browser.
  • Dec. 15: Last day to request a copy of your Arc account data or ask for it to be deleted.
  • Dec. 22: Arc for Mac and Windows stops working. Accounts are deactivated and personal data deleted within 30 days. Arc Search for Android is removed from Google Play.

Why Arc is ending

"Keeping a browser secure takes constant, dedicated work that is only increasing in the age of AI," the company wrote, according to TechCrunch.

The Browser Company was acquired by Atlassian for $610 million in 2025 and stopped adding features to Arc that year. Many users asked for Arc to be open-sourced, but CEO Josh Miller has said that would mean giving away the engine behind Dia, TechCrunch reported.

How to switch

Download Dia and choose to import from Arc during setup. It brings over Spaces (now Profiles), favorites, pinned tabs, folders, bookmarks, history, passwords and extensions, the help center says.
