The Golden State Warriors opened the 2026-27 season with a 127-105 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers at Crypto.com Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 21, trailing by as many as 35 points. They play their home opener against the Memphis Grizzlies at Chase Center on Friday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m.
Why it matters: Golden State started without Jimmy Butler, Kristaps Porzingis, Moses Moody and Brandin Podziemski, the AP reported, and the thin roster showed after a close first quarter.
How it went
- Curry's hot start: Stephen Curry, beginning his 18th season, scored 16 points on 7-for-9 shooting in the first quarter and finished with 23 in 21 minutes.
- The collapse: Down 34-33 after one, the Warriors were outscored 68-35 over the second and third quarters, NBC Sports Bay Area reported. They shot 8-for-36 from three.
- Lakers stars: Luka Doncic scored 28, including a half-court buzzer-beater before halftime. Walker Kessler went 12-for-12 for 26 points in his Lakers debut.
- Rookie debut: No. 11 pick Yaxel Lendeborg started and scored 12, and drew a technical foul while trading words with Doncic. "This was a great welcome to the NBA game for him," coach Steve Kerr said.
- Newcomer Brandon Williams added 14 points off the bench.
Friday's home opener
The Warriors host Memphis at 7 p.m. Friday on NBC Sports Bay Area, the team said. Fans in attendance get a Warriors x Trophy Hunting shirt. Golden State then plays at Phoenix on Saturday at 7 p.m., its first back-to-back.
The Grizzlies are 1-0 after Ty Jerome scored 45 points in a win over Utah, according to the Warriors' game preview.
